Was Never Promised*

You know as You sit here, You was never promised an easy life.

You  was never promised happiness or comfortability.

You was never promised a roof over my head or food to eat on a daily basis.

You was never promised that my family or you would be healthy and you was never promised that you would develop friendships that you hold dearly.

You was never promised that today would be free and that you would have to exchange a day of my life for it.

You was never promised that you will make a better tomorrow and with the utmost humility, make a difference in many people's lives.

You was never promised clothing to wear on a daily basis and a washing machine and dryer to clean and dry them.

You was never promised a direction in life and you certainly was not afforded a road map to get to where you belong.

You was never promised the luxury of an automobile or the money to put gas in it.

You was never promised that you would live in a modest home and fill it with the essentials to make a house, a home.

You was never promised, but you do promise, to never take for granted the things that have been so graciously given to you in your life.

You will give thanks on a daily basis for everything and everyone you touch and that touches you.  As you sit here writing this to you, you know in a blink of an eye, that all of these things that you  have can be gone.
